"Marvinok" is a female vocal group formed in 2006 in Lviv, the city located in the western Ukraine, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, which for many years has been one of the cultural centers of Ukraine.
The group consists of five girls who are professional vocalists. And that is why the beauty, saturation and interweaving of their voices, rich vocal intonations captivate the listener from the very first chords of songs.
"Marvinok" sings a capella in an authentic manner, without using musical instruments, except for percussion. The material they work with has a deep and ancient essence. The girls try to ensure that it is not only the text and manner of execution will correspond to the original source, but also the character of the song will remind of the performance, which can be found exclusively in remote rural areas high up in the Carpathians.
The group’s repertoire is based on the ancient Ukrainian traditional female songs, ritual songs and rites. Ritual songs are songs that have been performed during various national holidays, many of which are closely related to pagan beliefs. The songs accompany the everyday life of Ukrainians throughout the calendar year, from the time of Christmas to the autumn harvesting holidays and the preparation for winter.
Therefore, the program of the group has several imaginary cycles, which gradually reveal Ukrainian traditions and ceremonies. Winter themes include New Year's and Christmas greetings, wishes of health and happiness for the whole year. At the end of winter Ukrainians invite a warm sunshine with songs.
Spring and summer is the period of round dances. And on the holiday of Kupala night, in the middle of the summer, the girls make wreathes, guess about the one destined for, make fires and jump over them. With the advent of the autumn stubble songs take over. In addition, chants and ritual songs accompany a Ukrainian from his birth to the very death at all stages of his life. Therefore, the concert program also includes songs performed during different ceremonies - baptisms, weddings, etc.
The elements of the dance, which are also present in the program, give the whole performance on stage the unforgettable visual appeal, and each spectator, if they want, can participate in one or another ancient Ukrainian rite. To highlight all the beauty and color of the Ukrainian national ceremonies and celebrations the video-photo footage is used in concerts.
