The ensemble of the sacred music "Kanon" was created in May 1991 in Cherkasy by choral singing enthusiasts, united by fascination with the masterpieces of native sacred musical culture, almost unknown at that time to the general public, and a great desire to convey them to a wide audience.

The collective's repertoire is diverse and able to satisfy the tastes of the most demanding connoisseur of choral singing. The basis of the repertoire is sacred music – from monastery tunes of the 16th century to Orthodox chants by composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the performance of the ensemble, you can hear choral works of Ukrainian and world classics, Ukrainian folk songs in arrangements of classics of Ukrainian choral music – M. Leontovych, Y. Kozak, I. Vorobkevych, works of modern Ukrainian composers, as well as a whole list of spiritual works.

The ensemble of the sacred music "Kanon" carries out an active work in concerts almost since its creation and tours not only in Ukraine, but also far beyond its borders. Since 2005, "Kanon" has conducted 8 successful concert tours in the cities and towns of Finland, especially presenting concerts dedicated to the main Christian holidays of the liturgical year – Easter and Christmas.

In summer 2024, the ensemble presents its new concert program "Sacred Music and Spiritual Songs" to Finnish listeners, which consists of pearls of Ukrainian sacred and classical music. This program is not only a new joint musical project of "Kanon" and the soloist of the Cherkasy Regional Philharmonic, Honored Artist of Ukraine – Yurii Ilchuk, but also a unique combination of a male polyphonic voice with a wonderful lyrical baritone timbre.
