The idea to switch to the more entertainment format, – format of the musical theater, belongs to the artistic director of the vocal-choreography ensemble "Kolyada", Gennady Petrenko. The main task of the young collective was to make every performance bright, colorful, to fill it with content and diversity of genres, to link it in one story line. Show to viewer not just only concert, but musical action, where one will be able not only to understand author's intention, but feel characters life at the same level without any words, only with the song lyrics, music, dance and costume's help. And the young performers coped with this creative task.
The base of all performances of Gennady Petrenko's musical theater contains Ukrainian folk songs. The songs from different regions of Ukraine, that singing people from the Western Carpathians to the Eastern steppe of its surroundings. The songs of different genres, such as lyric and jocular songs, ritual songs and cossak songs. The songs, that was performed solo and by several participants, a cappella and accompanied by various musical instruments. In performances used different musical instruments, such as guitar and violin, accordion and various traditional Ukrainian flute. A characteristic feature of the theater is that each member plays at least on one or more musical instruments. To add some brightness and entertainment in performances the elements of Ukrainian choreography is used in every performance. Nice dolls will provide the viewer's good mood, and actors costumes will express imagination about big and diverse culture of the Ukrainian people.
For Finnish audience Gennady Petrenko's musical theater offers musical and vocal spectacular performance, inspired by motives of the tale "Sorochintsy Fair", which was wrote by a true connoisseur of Ukrainian folklore Nikolai Gogol. You will see the musical-ethnographic excursions to the life of the Ukrainian people, namely - Ukrainian village life. This story is about young lovers Paraska and Grisha, who won the right to a common future, despite the disapproval of parents, malice, and devil tricks. And the whole story takes place in a noisy area, in the Sorochyntsi village center. And heres all, that could be on the fair, dances, songs, gossip, quarrels and love. It would be a mistake don't say that Sorochintsy village exist for nowadays, and the very here Nikolai Gogol was born. And nowadays there conducted every year the biggest fair in Ukraine, which is named so - Sorochinskaya.
